Basel Abusharkh obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1996 and was a Professor of chemical engineering at KUPM for 14 years. In 2011, he founded InoChem, an industrial company for producing inorganic chemicals with a capital of $600 million and annual sales of $270 million. In 2015, he founded IDEA Salt and Water Company (ISW), a $200 million company for producing desalinated water and concentrated brine. In the same year, he also founded Hyrec, a company for developing purification and concentration technologies. He is currently CTO of ISW and Hyrec. He has numerous scientific publications and patents, some of which have been licensed to the chemical industry and made numerous presentations at international forums. He also served as advisor to the Ministry of Economy and Planning and Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia and to several international companies on matters related to water, energy and industrialization.
