Dr. Barun Gorain has more than 25 years’ experience in the mining industry with a focus on mineral processing technology, operational excellence and breakthroughs in new projects. He is presently working as a Director in Barrick Gold Corporation’s corporate office in Toronto, focusing on Innovation and Transformation. Previously, he served as a Group Leader at Cominco (now Teck) and also worked at Mt Isa Mines (now Glencore), Coal India and Hindustan Zinc (now Vedanta).
Dr. Gorain has a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from the JKMRC (University of Queensland) in Australia and a first class B.Tech degree in Mineral Engineering from Indian School of Mines. Dr. Gorain now serves in the board of JKMRC and also in the steering committee of Canadian Mining Innovation Council’s (CMIC) processing group. Dr. Gorain has participated as an invited speaker in various international forums and has made several contributions to books, journals and in various professional organizations. He has several patents, and his AMBS technology is commercially used in the copper and gold industry using raw sea or brackish water.
His goal is to be a leader in developing the next generation of mining that is highly profitable yet sustainable involving innovative stakeholder engagement, technology and business models with a sole focus on making this world a better place to live.
