Biography

Fatih Turan is currently the General Director and Vice President of the Executive Board of “Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration” (ISKI) under the Metropolitan Municipality of Istanbul since May 2016. Since 1981, ISKI has been managing potable water and waste water services in Istanbul, geographically located in both sides of the Bosphorus i.e. on the two continents (Europe and Asia), historically became the capital town of many civilisations for centuries.  Nowadays with 16 million inhabitants (more populated than dozens of countries in Europe), 30 million of Daily mobility of people, every day ISKI supplies around 3 million m³ potable water (1 billion m³ annually in 2017) and treats at least the same amount of waste water. Main water basins of ISKI are out of the boundaries of Istanbul, where water is brought away from 200 km to the West and 200 km to the East through 3 neighbouring towns.  With 12,000 employee and 1,5 billion Euros of 2018 budget, ISKI operates about 40,000 km water and waste water pipeline network and more than 100 of water and waste water treatment plants.

Fatih Turan was previously the General Director of the “General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments” under the Ministry of Transportation, Maritime and Telecommunication of the Republic of Turkey for 2 years as taking part of constructing some important transportation projects (Metro, Railway, Airport, Port etc), e.g. Marmaray Metro Line and Eurasia Road Tunnel under the Bosphorus in Istanbul, Istanbul Grand Airport Project, Turkish section of Baku (Azerbaijan) – Tbilisi (Georgia) – Kars (Turkey) Railway Line, Ordu-Giresun Airport (First Airport constructed on the Black Sea by filling the sea), Metro Lines in Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya constructed by the Ministry.

Fatih Turan is “Civil Engineer” (graduated from Istanbul Technical University), has a MSc Degree in Transportation Engineering and conducting PhD at the moment. In his 29 year of professional career as an engineer; he worked as “Project Engineer” and “Project Manager” in construction business (private sector), in public sector as a “Lecturer” in state universities (Sakarya University and Niğde University), as “Head of Transportation Department” and then “Vice Secretary General” in a metropolitan municipality in responsible for departments of transportation, information technology, human resources, social works, culture,  (Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality).
