Ms. Karmous-Edwards is currently an independent consultant with a focus on smart water grid technologies for both water utilities and technology companies. Most recently she was the Vice President of the Fathom Store at Fathom Water Management Inc. As part of the company’s Growth team, she defined, built, and launched a new FATHOM business unit surrounding the novel concept of creating the first ever data-rich, ecommerce technology store for the water sector. The Fathom Store provides a marketplace of Big-data applications (IoT and analytics via a SaaS cloud) that help utilities reduce costs, increase profits, and gain insights into their business. Her role involved building partnerships with global technology companies and developing novel business models for increasing technology adoption for utilities, while resolving both technical data integrations and commercial challenges.
Prior to joining FATHOM, she was the Director of Technology at Sensus, a meter and smart grid technology company where she was responsible for the company’s technology roadmap, and co-led the data analytics architecture, working in both R&D and Marketing. Prior to Sensus, she worked as a Principal Scientist at MCNC and an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University. She has chaired several international workshops and conferences on Grid Computing and E-science. She chaired the Control Plane working group of the GLIF organization for six years. She also successfully built and sold a product company as an entrepreneur. Her career includes a multi-discipline approach of technology leadership positions in both industry and academics (applied research) with a strong background in software and hardware development including solution architecture.
She has published over 24 peer-reviewed publications and a Wiley book on Grid Networking. Ms. Karmous-Edwards holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science degree of Chemical Engineering, both of which were received from North Carolina State University.
