Biography

Mike W. Otten is Director, Systems Intelligence Center of Excellence (CoE) of Xylem (NSYE: XYL), a newly created CoE following Xylem’s recent acquisitions advancing its position to provide digital technology in the water sector.

In 2016, Xylem was involved in the water sectors most exciting acquisitions, when it acquired Sensus a leading provider of smart meters, network technologies, and advanced data analytics services for 1.7 $billion, and in tandem with this, also acquired Visenti a Singapore based water analytics firm.
These strategic acquisitions accelerated Xylem’s ability to bring systems intelligence solutions and be a leading driver of smart water solutions.

As a Director for Systems Intelligence, Mike is driving the effort to elevate Xylem up the technology curve by leveraging Sensus core technologies and driving development, implementation and lifecycle management for new SI customer solutions across Xylem applications in various water sectors.

Prior to joining Xylem in 2016, Mike developed his expertise in smart connected water technology by holding various leadership positions at global manufacturing companies in Europe, Middle East and Africa for more than two decades. As an advisory board member and leader in two start-up companies; his team’s efforts to drive Internet of Things (IoT) development and implementation in technology conservative industries has been described as ‘pioneering’ and paved the way for many other start-ups.

Mike has a long career in the water technology industry and early involvement in the IoT revolution. Back in 2008, Mike received the very first innovation award from the M2M board Benelux and delivered numerous proof of concept that connectivity and data from assets is able to reduce OPEX, deliver new revenues streams and improve profitability in the today’s IIoT segments, such as; Industry 4.0, smart infrastructure, connected cars and intelligent buildings.
