The Sustainable Water Alliance
A
social business to change the way the world of water works
What is
it?
The Sustainable Water Alliance will be a catalyst for change in the
water sector. We are setting it up as a social business - i.e. one
which makes profits in order to achieve a social goal rather than to
enrich its shareholders. Our trading activities will include publishing
a magazine called Sustainable Water, and operating conferences on
the sustainable water theme. Both will have a campaigning agenda.
These activities will help build the contacts that we can use to set
up a consulting network and sustainable investment brokerage
which will work with forward-looking water utilities, industry experts
and the new generation of venture philanthropists to make things
happen. Any operating surpluses will be ploughed back into
promotion, lobbying and developing the business.
Advertisers will want to support our publications because they
know that the cause the magazine is supporting is both good for
their business and makes their business look good.
Delegates will want to attend our conferences because they
know that they will be part of something that will make a
difference.
Our consultancy network and investment brokerage will be
successful because it will bring together the best experts, the
best opportunities, and the best investors to make a difference
in the world.
The business will be owned by a charitable trust and funded by zero interest loans from supporters. These will be repaid over time. The real dividend will be an increase in sustainable water management around the world.
