Darren obtained his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from The University of New South Wales, Australia in 1993. His research interests are in the field of (1) membrane separation for desalination & water reclamation, (2) environmental applications and implication of nanomaterials, (3) engineered hybrid multifunctional membrane for sustainable production of water and energy. Darren was the recipient of the IWA Innovation Award 2008 from International Water Association (IWA), Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award 2008 from Institute of Engineering Singapore, Nanyang Award for Innovation and Research 2009 from Nanyang Technological University and President Award from President Akira Fujishima of Tokyo University of Science. Darren is IWA Fellow and the Chair for IWA Specialist Group on Chemical Industries, Vice Chair for IWA Specialist Group on Nano and Water. Darren holds a Shimizu Visiting Professor at Environmental Engineering and Science Program, Stanford University, USA, Visiting Professorship at Shandong University, PR China and Visiting Professor, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He founded Nano Sun Pte Ltd, Singapore in 2013. With the Co-Founder and the team, the company has built up the additive manufacturing facilities for membrane production. Today, Nano Sun has successfully implemented its membranes for water reclamation, especially 20,000 m3/d for municipal wastewater and 4,000 m3/d semi-conductor industrial wastewater application.
