Biography

Mike has 33 years of experience in the planning, design, construction supervision, project management and financial analysis of bulk water supply and water resource infrastructure. He has been involved with integrated water resource management (IWRM) and related project coordination and management of a wide range of water resource and bulk water infrastructure related studies. Experience has been gained in feasibility studies, design, contract documentation, programming and project management. Mike has also been responsible for the development of bulk infrastructure masterplans and water resource and catchment management strategies. Mike was the global client director for water in Aurecon before joining the City of Cape Town in 2018. Mike is currently the Director: Bulk Services and is also responsible for the implementation of the City’s New Water Programme which includes the implementation of large scale water re-use schemes.

He is a registered professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and holds several degrees including a master’s in business administration (2000) from the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town as well as a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a honours degree in business economics from the University of Pretoria in 1985 and 1990 respectively.
