As a certified special education teacher, Gunda Röstel first worked as a teacher and later as a school director. After her political engagement as party leader of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen (Alliance 90/The Greens), she has been working in the energy and water management sector since the year 2000. With her position as company secretary of GELSENWASSER AG, managing director of the subsidiary Stadtentwässerung Dresden GmbH as well as in various supervisory board functions of the EnBW Group, she has many years of operational as well as cross-sectoral professional experience in this sector.
Furthermore, she is co-founder and chairwoman of the board of the only internationally oriented German water association, German Water Partnership, member of the board of BDEW and deputy chair of the German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE).
