Biography

Mahmudul Hasan is the Biosolids Manager at the Baltimore City Department of Public Works, USA. He oversees the biosolids operations of Maryland’s two largest wastewater plants and has been involved in the effort to transition the plants into resource recovery facilities. His specialization includes biosolids treatment and resource recovery from wastewater in support of a circular economy and innovation for wastewater treatment and water reuse. After receiving a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Mahmudul received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from George Washington University.

Mahmudul serves as a scientific committee member for several international conferences and technical exhibitions. He also provides his academic service as a journal reviewer for various environmental engineering journals and published several articles on wastewater treatment, water reuse, and energy optimization in water resource recovery facilities. He also co-authors multiple books such as Manual of Practice – Energy Efficiency in WRRF, Wastewater Treatment Fundamentals III-Advanced Treatment, Standard Design Methods for WRRFs, etc. Meanwhile, Mahmudul holds leadership positions on several committees of the Water Environment Federation and International Water Association. Mahmudul is passionate about teaching and mentoring young people to build their careers in the water sector.
