Biography

Rafael Prieto is CEO and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Canal Isabel II. Since he joined Canal’s Executive Board in 2016, Mr Prieto has accelerated the company’s transformation in terms of diversification, governance, transparency, operations, profitability and growth. He has a degree in Economic and Business Sciences (Economics and Public Finance section) from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and holds Senior Management Programs from HEC-CPA (France-USA) and l’Institut Supérieur du Management of PSA (France-Russia).

Mr Prieto brings more than 30 years of experience in finance, commercial, marketing and strategic management. Proficient in strategy and operations with in-depth business-unit management experience in Europe and LATAM and marketing expertise worldwide. Senior leader with extensive and successful track record in the automotive industry, Public Utilities (water, energy and telecom), trade associations and non-government organizations (automotive, water, advertising and media, climate change). Experienced Member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee in public companies and regulated sectors.

Joining Canal Isabel II Group in February 2016 as Managing Director of the Public Authority Canal Isabel II and became CEO of Canal Isabel II, S.A that May. Since 2018, Mr Prieto is CEO and Executive Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Canal Isabel II, SA, and represents Canal on the boards of its international and national subsidiaries of water, renewable energy and telecommunications. He is currently vice Chairman of AEAS (Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation) representing Canal Isabel II.

Rafael Prieto is collaborating as mentor in the PROMOCIONA program, an initiative of the Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organizations (CEOE), the Government of Spain and ESADE business school, aimed at companies committed to diversity and the promotion of women so that they reach senior management positions in companies.
